ITM History

In 2004 the founders of ITM AG were approached by leading medical and academic institutions with requests to collaborate in the development and industrialization of a new generation of (personalized) radioisotope therapies.

The Government of Bavaria and the Technical University of Munich TUM had at the same time just completed the construction of the new FRM II Neutron Source in Garching/Munich and were proposing a long-term collaboration in the industrial utilization of the nuclear infrastructure for the development and production of a next generation of medical radioisotopes.

A detailed investigation of the medical efficacy, supply-chain and commercial viability of the then (2004), current state-of-affairs in Molecular Imaging, Radiopharmaceuticals and Brachytherapies revealed a recurring pattern of significant medical successes in combination with commercial failures - largely due to sometimes completely unrecognized and fundamentally unresolved supply-chain issues and customer needs.

After further systematic analysis and exploration of solution scenarios and possible business models it became apparent to the founders of itm, that, through a systematic and vertically integrated approach to the radio-pharmaceutical value- and supply- chains, fundamentally improved products and services, leading to a potential paradigm shift in the markets for Brachytherapies and Radiopharmaceuticals could be developed, secured and implemented through leveraging the unique combination of the available infrastructure and human capital.

On these grounds, the founders of ITM AG, together with their academic, medical and governmental collaboration partners, concluded at the end of 2004 that a significant market need could be satisfied through a systematic, innovative and vertically integrated approach to the next generation of „personalized“, targeted radiosotope therapies and related supply-chain systems.

ITM AG was consequentially founded at the end of 2004 and focused on developing a vertically integrated portfolio of radioisotopes, application systems and a new generation of personalized therapies in oncology and endovascular therapy.
