The Peptide Receptor Radio-Isotope Therapy for Neuroendocrine Tumors (NET-PRRT) is currently the fastest growing and most successful example of a radio-isotope based personalized therapy.
Patients are first tested for the expression of their tumors affinity to a certain class of peptides (somatostatin analoges) by PET/CT or SPECT and subsequently treated with an individually determined combination of peptides and therapeutic isotopes. ITG Isotope Technologies Garching GmbH is doing research and development of radioisotopes for PRRT. Originally, the PRRT was positioned as a „last option“ treatment for patients with progressed metastatic disease and only a few months to live. As of today mean survival of these patients could be extended to several years, while providing a treatment with low side effects and high quality of life. In addition to its involvement in the NET-PRRT, ITM is, in the context of B2B collaborations involved in several pipeline developments of Targeted Radio-isotope Therapies entering phase II and III clinical trials and has licensed a portfolio of targeting molecules such as innovative Peptides and Antibodies (mAbs). The Pipeline is developed for therapeutic and diagnostic applications by ITMs radiopharmaceuticals daughter company RP-München GmbH and is showing promise of becoming a patform technology in the treatment of metastatic tumors such as melanoma.
