The new generation of personalized therapies, combining advances in bio-technology with radioisotopes, not only significantly improves the outcomes of therapies in oncology

and other fields, but also fundamentally improves the quality of life of the patients, while at the same time lowering the cost of healthcare.

Conventional treatments (such as chemo-therapies) generally show limited statistical effectiveness of the therapy in the overall patient populations and therefore several are usually applied by default in sequence or in combination (such as multiple chemo-agents and radiation therapy) in all patients. This results in an accumulation of often severe side effects, impairment of quality-of-life and high cost, while at the same time often providing limited medical advantage to the concerned patients.

The fundamental difference of „personalized therapies“ as compared to this conventional „Shotgun/Blockbuster“ approach of pharmaceutical industry lies in the fact, that due to significant advances in molecular biology and –imaging, patients can now be tested for their individual responses to a range of targeting mechanisms and biomolecules and subsequently, be systematically treated with very high probabilities of effectiveness and generally low side effects.

In this way, sub-populations of patients are pre-selected with „low-cost“ companion diagnostics before the respective „personalized“ therapeutic regime for this sub-population is effectively applied.

The tandem of personalized therapies and „companion“ diagnostics also creates a growing demand for more effective diagnostic and therapeutic isotopes (Positron, Beta and Alpha Emmitters) to be labelled onto bio-molecules. In order to ensure availability of these new therapies to larger numbers of patients worldwide, new levels of quality, daily availability of isotopes and effective, integrated supply-chain solutions and services have been developed and are today routinely provided by ITM and its daughter companies.

ITM has, especially in the context of the rapidly developing field of personalized medicine, been able to prove and validate a unique ability to innovate and provide highly effective solutions to the medical community and industry alike. Since its formation in 2004, ITM has systematically developed an integrated portfolio and pipeline of, isotopes, application systems, services and therapies for the new generation of „personalized medicine“.
